Mary Jennings attended the Region 3 Council Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee on September 27, 2007. Karen Griggs opened the meeting and
welcomed the Chapter leaders. Randy Headley discussed the importance of keeping the Communications Officer up-to-date on activities
within the Chapter. Roz Hazzard talked about the high level of educational programs that will be presented in Indianapolis.
Roz reminded members of the speakers bureau through ALA.
Karen Griggs discussed ALA’s initiative of offering member firms various insurance coverages under one umbrella at a discount.
This will offer law firms another option when reviewing and negotiating benefit packages for their law firms. More information on this
will be forthcoming.
After an ice-breaker and getting to know other Chapter Leaders, the group divided into focus chapter breakouts to discuss educational
programs, membership drives, vendor participation and support, and how to engage members to participate at the local, regional and
national level. The Gateway Chapter continues to excel in all of these areas and we were able to share some of our successes.
The Gateway Chapter brought home several awards this year from the ALA International Conference Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas, NV
in May.
The chapter came home with a 1st place award for our Community Challenge Weekend – Trivia Night. A special thanks goes out to
Jen Barton with Paule, Camazeine & Blumenthal, P.C. and Donna Sobkoviak with Summers, Compton, Wells & Hamburg, P.C. for
spearheading that project.
Also, we received a 1st place award for Visibility for our Managing Partner Event. I would like to thank Bert Gagnon and Paul
Dalziel, both with Thompson Coburn, LLP, and Jennifer Fourcault of Jenkins & Kling, P.C. for putting together this
wonderful event.
Debbie Holland of Eckenrode-Maupin accepted the Gold Award for the President’s Award of Excellence.
The Gateway Chapter was award 3rd place for our Bar Relations programs. I want to thank Mary Jennings of Sandberg, Phoenix
and von Gontard, P.C. for all her work on that program over the past couple of years.
Paul Dalziel of Thompson Coburn, LLP was given an Honorable Mention for the new Quest Award. This award is for a new member that
gets very involved with the local chapter immediately upon joining.
